How to print price tags from Shopify
Your prices already live in Shopify. Printing tags from them, rather than typing prices into a label maker, means a tag can't disagree with the checkout. Here's how, including sale tags with the original price struck through.
Step by step
- Check prices in Shopify. The tag prints each variant's price exactly as your store sells it, formatted in your store's currency.
- Pick products. In Crisp Labels, press Add products, choose products or single variants, and set how many tags each needs.
- Choose a size. See the table below. Sheets print on any laser or inkjet printer; rolls need a label printer.
- Choose what shows. Turn on Price. Add the product name, variant, barcode or SKU if there's room. Use Price size under Advanced to make the price the biggest thing on the tag.
- Print the PDF at 100% (Actual size).
Sale tags
Shopify marks an item on sale when its compare-at price is higher than its price. Turn on Sale price with original crossed out and every tag for a discounted item shows the sale price with the original struck through beside it. Items that aren't discounted print one price, so you can print a mixed batch in one go.
When the sale ends, remove the compare-at price in Shopify and print fresh tags for those items.
Which size to use
| What's on the tag | Sizes that fit |
|---|---|
| Price only | Avery 5167 (1/2 × 1-3/4 in, 80 per sheet), 1/2 × 1 in rolls |
| Price and barcode | 1.5 × 1 in or 1.25 × 1 in rolls, Avery L7651 |
| Name, price and barcode | 2 × 1 in or 2.25 × 1.25 in rolls, Avery 5160 or L7160 |
| Shelf edge or bin | 3 × 2 in rolls, or a custom size |
Full dimensions and layouts are in the label size guide.
Tips for tags that look right
- Long product names shrink to fit before they're cut, so a tag never loses the end of a name unless there's truly no room. If it's tight, turn off Vendor or Variant.
- Use Extra line for a short note on every tag, like "Final sale" or "Made in Ohio".
- Print a page on plain paper and hold it against your label sheet before using real labels.
- Reprint after every price change. A tag that disagrees with the register costs more trust than the tag.
Common questions
- Can Shopify print price tags?
- Not from the admin on its own. Shopify stores each variant's price and compare-at price, and a label app turns them into printable tags. Crisp Labels prints them as a PDF for Avery sheets or roll labels.
- How do I print sale tags with the old price crossed out?
- Set a compare-at price higher than the price on the variant in Shopify. In Crisp Labels, turn on Sale price with original crossed out. Tags for items on sale show both prices with the original struck through; items not on sale show one price.
- Will my price tags update when I change prices?
- Printed tags don't change, so reprint after a price change. Crisp Labels reads prices from Shopify when you add products to a print run, so new tags match your store.
- Can I print price tags without a barcode?
- Yes. Turn the barcode off and the price, name and any other fields you keep get the whole label, which suits small tags like Avery 5167.
